The main goal of this book is for those on the other side of the pages to hear. For women who carry their silent stories within them day after day to understand that they are not alone. For those who want to give up not to give in. This book contains stories about bodily experiences, sexuality, pain, the search for identity, motherhood, the experience of serious illness, toxic relationships, and healing. It is a book of comfort, a book of challenge, a book of sisterhood.
"What She Is Silent About" – a book for women, with texts written by women. It is also the debut publication of the newly established Creative Women Publishing. 48 personal stories reveal topics that many are still ashamed to talk about. These include sexuality, violence, abuse in the family, bodily autonomy, and the difficult experience of motherhood, as well as toxic relationships. The Yakaboo blog publishes an excerpt from the book, in which activist Olha Zeleniuk candidly shares her dream of becoming pregnant.
"What She Is Silent About" can be called a therapeutic collection that fights against toxic stereotypes. The book immediately became an event, as among its authors are activist human rights defenders, women with interesting stories, and well-known people who have something to share: rapper alyona alyona, actress Irma Vitovska, journalist and literary scholar Iryna Slavinska, writer and human rights defender Larysa Denysenko, doctor Nataliia Leliukh, writer Anna Topilina, and many others.
- The book features 48 different female voices: the collection of texts began in March 2020, just before the lockdown – and was finally completed before the New Year.
- The book includes essays by authors from the most diverse corners of Ukraine and the world (USA, Poland, Canada, Germany, Sweden).
- Among the authors are an ornithologist, a climber, a rapper, a mortarman, a plus-size model, a scientist, an actress.
- "The title of the book changed at least three times, and the most fitting chapter titles were created by the art director of the Ornelli publishing house, Ostapenko."
- The idea for the book was born while scrolling through the Facebook feed: one of the co-founders and the editor of the book, Slava Svitova, read a post that included the words "Do you hear, sister?" This sparked the desire to create a book that had never existed in Ukraine – a book from whose pages women speak to other women.
