The book is written as a novel from the Cossack times for young people and became a bestseller of that time, gaining wide popularity in western Ukraine (in the center and eastern Ukraine it was simply not published).
The reissue was published in Winnipeg, Canada at the Library of the Friends of Ukrainian Book Club (1952).
