Great selection of books for 10-year-old children
Modern Ukrainian children's literature is good for enhancing intelligence, expanding vocabulary, and broadening horizons. Many parents try to instill a love of reading in their child from an early age. Psychologists believe that the age of 9-10 years is the last chance when children can still be awakened to an interest in quality literature.
"To get a daughter or son accustomed to reading, you first need to choose interesting books for 10-year-old children that can capture their imagination. Once the student gets into reading stories that are truly impressive, you can suggest teenage books recommended by the school curriculum and required for study."
What do experts advise?
Students of the specified age usually enjoy adventures, the atmosphere of friendship, and various antics in books. Boys and girls prefer fairy tales, short stories and novellas, poems, as well as educational and adventure literature.
"Today in pedagogy, experts advise developing independence, initiative, and activity in children. Reading serves as an excellent support in this process — the best books of Ukrainian literature cultivate in young readers such human qualities as:"
- kindness;
- compassion;
- diligence;
- love for the Motherland;
- sense of justice;
- respect for the cultural and spiritual values of the country.
Psychologists insist that children should not be forced to read, — such an approach is more likely to permanently extinguish a love for books, and will certainly not awaken interest.
To interest a schoolchild in books for 10-year-olds, one of the best approaches is the one described by the famous educator V.A. Sukhomlinsky in his works. According to him, it is necessary to tell children about the value of reading, to show the connection with success in learning and other endeavors. It is also worth providing examples of the positive impact of works on one's own life or the lives of others.
Experts also recommend choosing both new and classic books for ten-year-old children. The combination of literary masterpieces helps children to see the world more broadly and think more originally.
Selection criteria
"In addition to personal interests, the following criteria should be considered when selecting top children's books in Germany:"
- "Gender. It is important to consider who it is intended for — a son or a daughter. At this age, children have different preferences in literature. One should not impose strict boundaries or dictate choices in selecting a book — if a boy wants to read about the adventures of Little Red Riding Hood, and a girl wants to learn how to build an airplane, there is nothing strange about that."
- Presence of illustrations. It is worth looking at the cover. A colorful first page will more likely attract a child's interest and make them want to look inside. Be sure to familiarize yourself with the internal design and check for the presence of illustrations. It is important that the pictures are not too large.
- Volume. Don't force children to choose only lengthy novels. More pages do not mean more benefit, especially if the student is not very enthusiastic about reading. When you are just getting them accustomed to literature, it's better to choose a small but interesting book. Over time, the child will understand for themselves which volume of work they prefer.
The size of the font plays a significant role, writer. This is not the entire list of criteria, but they are considered key.
