"Aliye, Alena, and I. From our names, written in a line or a column, one can study the history of Crimea."
Crimea. It was here that the childhood, youth, and first love of the main character of the novel took place. It was here that she realized she was Ukrainian. Neither her grandfather, a KGB lieutenant colonel, nor the Russian blood in her veins stood in the way of this.
"Like an ornament, the Crimean Tatar culture and Ukrainian history intertwine in the novel. On the pages of the book, the reader will encounter Crimean Tatars, Karaites, Ukrainians, and Russians." Germans, Jews, Greeks, 'the Armenians of Crimea will gradually open the closets with family skeletons.' Together with the main character and her friend Aliya, we will journey from their childhood in the 1990s all the way to the occupation of the peninsula by Russia in 2014, with excursions into the ancient history of Crimea.
"Beyond Perekop, there is land" — this is an attempt to open the mainland to the peninsula and the peninsula to the mainland from an unusual perspective. After all, there is land both there and here. It is worth knowing it and restoring its integrity.
The work on the book began in 2012. With the start of the occupation of Crimea in 2014, the concept changed. During this time, the author conducted about 200 interviews with more than 50 Crimeans. The details of their stories became part of the novel.
